SYNOPSIS
SINOPSE
A document of the first years after the Revolution, when pornography was gaining significant momentum in the Romanian film industry, “On Set” presents a young couple who decides to play in such a production. At the end of this experience the two break up. Shot in black and white exclusively in interiors, Radu Muntean’s film stands out through its uninhibited representation of naked human bodies and explicit sexual intercourse. Even though the camera and the editing never resort to a pornographic style and the sequences show no trace of sleaziness, the blunt manner in which the characters’ bodies are rendered on screen and the utter lack of prudishness of the narrative gaze are illustrative for both a moment in the post-Revolution development of Romanian visual arts and the future oeuvre of a filmmaker concerned with depicting human sexuality and the moral issues that arise from its exploration in the most non spectacular way possible.
