LOCAL TIME ONLY

In Local Time Only, director Simona Constantin proposes a program that explores the practices of memory construction, analyzing the stories of individuals who relate and contribute to society while remaining faithful to their own past. With a background in Anthropology and Psychology, the directors of the selected films approach documentary as a field of genuine and inspiring connection between filmmaker and subject.

“Memory is such a tricky topic to be explored. It is slippery, misleading, emotional and unstable, yet inhabited by our bodies in space and time and crystallized in words, melodies, places and objects that feel undeniably real. The past is never about a singular truth, but is to be found in one’s situated reality. Everything is co-constructed: from our communities, to our cities and villages. Learning about the world around us means learning about the people who make up the world. This film programme explores memory-making practices, looking at stories of individuals who connect and contribute to society while staying true to their own past. In the process, these people turn the built environment and their communities into preservation sites for memories and identities, shaping futures where the intimate becomes public. With backgrounds in anthropology and psychology, the filmmakers included in the selection explore approaches within the field of documentary filmmaking, creating genuine and inspiring connections with their subjects.” – Simona Constantin
