Visegrad Film Hub 6.0

VISEGRAD FILM HUB, organised by BEAST IFF with the support of the International Visegrad Fund, provides support for the audiovisual works from the V4 region – Czechia, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia

This collaborative experience with relevant institutions from the region will focus on presenting regular screening while accessing new audiences on the Portugal territory. This is to be the 6th edition of VFH, a gathering of film enthusiasts, young professionals and a step further to building the identity of the New East.

Visegrad Film Hub 6.0, taking place between 25 – 29 September 2024, will present the new audiovisual talents from the V4 countries, in a continuation of the work to promote the cultural diversity of the V4 and the intercultural dialogue across Europe. This year, BEAST IFF brings the sixth edition of the Visegrad Film Hub with V4 SCREEN, V4 ACADEMY and V4 CONNECT, presenting a series of special screenings and educational projects. Moreover, the hub will engage film professionals through its industry and co-production activities.

PLUSEAST, the entity behind BEAST International Film Festival, is an organisation formed by Portuguese and international members, based on the motto “From East to West” reflecting its mission – promotion of Eastern European culture and contemporary art in Portugal through active collaborations with local and international institutions. The cultural diversity of Europe is what makes it such a singular place, thus it is essential to give the opportunity to a wide public of getting to know the best that is made in the field of artistic expression and cultural identity in countries that, for the majority, are still very far. Since 2018, Visegrad Film Hub has become an essential part of the mission as it brings together Portugal with four countries that represent a substantial part of the cultural production in the Central and East European region.

BRNO16 is an international short film festival. It is one of the oldest film festivals in the Czech Republic and has been going on uninterrupted since 1960. At the same time, it is also one of the oldest short film festivals in the world. BRNO16 presents various kinds of short films – live action, animation, experimental, student, professional and also non-professional. Besides the prestigious competition, the festival offers different kinds of activities in the off-programme – exhibitions, discussions or workshops. Each year we welcome various Czech and foreign guests, with whom you can discuss their films and professional experience.

 

Institute of Documentary Film

The Institute of Documentary Film (IDF) has been supporting creative documentary films from Central and Eastern Europe since 2001. The IDF provides both emerging and experienced filmmakers with training, financing, networking and pitching opportunities, helps them get international attention and co-productions, rewards the exceptional projects with Awards and further opportunities and improves their orientation on the international market. The promotional and practical service of the IDF includes a wide range of online and offline catalogues being created annually, updating a thorough database of CEE documentaries and professionals and a calendar of important deadlines for producers, and bringing news from the world of documentary film in general via dokweb.net and social media.

Short Waves Film Festival

Short Waves Festival is one of the most significant Polish festivals presenting exclusively short films. It’s a constellation of cinematic events scattered around Poznań’s urban landscape. Competition screenings are its core – sets of short films encompassing five categories: International Competition, Polish Competition, Dances with Camera, Urban View and Polish Experimental Short Film Competition.

Verzió International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival, the largest documentary film festival in Hungary, has been organized on an annual basis since 2004. It aims to promote open society, democratic values, rule-of-law, freedom of expression, political and cultural pluralism, and to expose abuse and global human rights violations through creative, quality documentaries. Verzió has been showcasing outstanding films from all over the world which examine the present, reflect on the past, arouse sympathy in the viewer, and which approach their subjects in authentic and imaginative ways.

 

The project is co-financed by the Governments of Czechia, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia through Visegrad Grants from International Visegrad Fund – www.visegradfund.org . The mission of the fund is to advance ideas for sustainable regional cooperation in Central Europe.
